We had a false alarm "snow day" right before the Super Bowl was hosted in my city - no snow came! Yes, the Polar Vortex was quite something but I got lucky! Thanks!

Comment: Thanks for the postcard! It reminds me of some of the Public Information films. I've recently discovered that lots of those are available at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/ -- they have films from 1945-2006 on the website. I've just watched the film version of your postcard!.
Response: Thanks for the information about the public service broadcasts. I will certainly check it out as I love them. The Museum of the Moving Image was a wonderful resource for such things. It used to be on the South Bank. I used to spend hours and hours there watching all kinds coffee old TV programmes and these public service programmes. Why they closed the Museum down is anyone's guess. Best wishes.

Comment: First, the postcards arrived all in one piece and I love them! That said, thank goodness for washi tape cause that was all that was holding the envelope together!! The top and one side was completely torn open but the washi tape kept all the pcs safe! Love the two Ladybird ones and the Peter Pan one the best! Thank you so much for all the great cards and the stamps you used! (Just finished Vera!)

In the Protestant North of Germany, “der Weihnachtsmann” (the “Christmas Man”) brings the presents on Christmas Eve; in the Catholic South, it’s “das Christkind” (the Christ child).
Some parents send the children to Mass or to a Nativity play at church in the afternoon so that they won’t see the presents being delivered, which will be waiting for them when they get back.
Since my father is from England, we’ve always had presents arrive in the night before Christmas Day, so a few hours later than German children — we would see them when we woke up.
I think it’s easier to explain to a child “when you wake up” than “the doors to the living room will remain locked until 6 p.m.”, especially if they’re too young to have a solid concept of time.
